MISSION MINISTRY

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father

and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you;

and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20

Update from Joe and Terri Potter - Guyana

November 2007 Update

After grabbing 2 subs from the new and only real sub shop in all of Guyana, we ended our time in Georgetown by heading to SPLASHMIN’S—a place to swim at a “black water” river beach and hang out in a safe environment which is on the way to the interior. We had a good time there—even took a little kayak ride for two. Wow, I used to like canoeing but the kayak is so much more responsive. After 3 days of running around getting supplies and catching up with other missionaries, Splashmin’s was a treat. The trip home took 7 ½ hours to go 85 miles because of having to wait in line for a very slow ferry to cross the Berbice River. So, needless to say we are glad to be home.

Even though things here go slow it is good to be here. After 4 days in town, I have been able to disengage from daily chores and evaluate a little. Today is my day to evaluate and to catch up with the important. You are important to me! The last update was the result of the Lord’s hand on Terri after much prayer. We are grateful that God used it so.

It seems that life is a little like the exercise ball that I am sitting on while composing this. If I sit up straight and keep balanced all is well—but if not...well, I might just hit the floor with my knee wrapped around my neck. By analogy—if I look around at all that needs to be done instead of asking and trusting God to direct me…well, I might lose my perspective and get burned out. I have spent too much time with my knee wrapped around my neck. I think Moms must learn this after their second child comes along!

For the last 6 months I have been able to meet with all the pastors on a weekly basis for encouragement and prayer. This has gone great. Pastor Mike told me a couple of weeks ago—“I get it, Br. Joe, this discipleship thing has gotten me to think!” As a result he is spending time discipling two men in his church weekly! Before this time most of the pastors claimed that they were too busy to be discipling. God is at work here!

My time with the pastors for now will be spent working through the classic by Dr. Gene Getz—The Measure of a Man in groups of 2 or 3. We have all read the book before but there is so much more Christian character that can be built in us as we come face to face with God’s Word on the subject of Christian maturity. I am excited for this opportunity to grow with these guys. Pray for us. I am grateful to those men and women in my life that encouraged me in this whole thing of discipleship. Some of my heroes who have walked before me in this way are Tilly and Rudy, Hal, Jose, Terri J , Renee, Pastor Tim, Mark and Patty, Dick and Shawn.

May the God of Hope fill you~

with all joy and peace —as you trust in Him~

so that you overflow with—

Hope~

by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

God’s richest blessings, my friends!
